Brushbox
Brushbox varies in colour from a rich reddish brown to a pinkish grey and is a hard wearing species, making it great for flooring, benchtops and furniture.
RECYCLED FROM Brushbox is usually found in building demolitions from Sydney and further north. It was also used in old wharf decks and road bridge decks (which gives the lie to its durability rating), as structural beams, old house roofs & floorboards.
TIMBER KNOWLEDGE Brushbox varies in colour from a rich reddish brown to a pinkish grey and often has a distinctive figure. The trees grow in north eastern NSW and eastern QLD forests, often found on the edge of rainforest pockets. Very hard wearing because of the high silica content but it does blunt blades very quickly.
Brushbox: Lophostemon confertus / Tristania conferta
USES The high silica content makes it very hard wearing and excellent for use as a floor. Its distinctive grain and rich colours make brushbox also useful in benchtops and furniture.
