Tallowwood
RECYCLED FROM Houses, factories and buildings in NSW & QLD. It was often used for industrial floors, but was also uses as a structural timber. Tallowwood’s high durability and strength meant it is often found in old bridges, wharves, telegraph and power poles.
TIMBER KNOWLEDGE Tallowwood came from the east coast forests from the Hunter Valley up to Maryborough in QLD. It has quite a consistent even grain and mid yellowish-brown colour. Old Tallowwood floor boards develop a beautiful patina, usually without the surface checking often seen in Blackbutt.
Tallowwood: Eucalyptus microcorys
USES We rarely receive large amounts of Tallowwood so anything recycled from building timbers usually goes into our Blackbutt / Dense Browns mix. Because of it’s durability it is perfect for exterior uses like decking and cladding. It also makes a great hard wearing floor.
It is often found in old round telegraph and power poles and we re-saw these into solid square posts for pergolas and decks.
