BASIC CONSTRUCTS - JEREMY LEPISTO '21

February 2021

To be officially opened by Dr Rohan Nicol, Head, Jewellery & Object, Australian National University School of Art & Design.

“I find inspiration in the layered facades of buildings, the thick tangle of city power lines, the apparent effects of time on the built environment, and other elements commonly found in my everyday surroundings. I employ this visual vocabulary to create artwork that details places that are nowhere in particular and yet are somehow familiar to most. By giving focus to the peripheral, I look to explore the complex in the common and comment on the condition of the spaces we all share.”

Jeremy Lepisto works from his independent glass studio in Queanbeyan (NSW), Jeremy Lepisto Projects. He creates his own works as well as commissioned kilnformed pieces for other people.

Lepisto received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University (in Alfred, New York USA) in 1997, majoring in Glass and Metals (with minors in Art History and Art Education) and is currently a PhD candidate at the Australian National University School of Art & Design.

Lepisto has exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions throughout Australia, the USA, and group exhibitions in Berlin, New York and Melbourne, to name just a few. Lepisto also guest lectured in the USA, UK and all over Australia. He served on the Board of Directors for the Glass Art Society, USA for over seven years and is currently a board member of the Canberra Glassworks. In 2020, Lepisto was a Finalist in the prestigious Tom Malone Prize (WA), Fuse Glass Prize (SA), and in 2019, the Klaus Moje Glass Award (ACT) and also exhibited in Thor’s Hammer DESIGN Canberra exhibition At Home, in the Mixing Room Gallery.
