Shop Sustainably This Christmas // Thor's Hammer 2023 Gift Guide
December 2023
It’s December, which means the festive season is officially upon us. We cannot think of a better time to share the Thor’s Hammer Gift Guide for 2023.
With a focus on sustainable gifts made from recycled materials, we’ve asked some members of our team to share which pieces from our new collection, Thinking Small, are at the top of their Christmas lists.
If you’re inspired by any of their suggestions, all pieces in the collection are now available to shop via our website, with both local pickup and shipping available. Order by December 18 for the best chance of receiving your pieces in time for Christmas.
Clover CheeseBoard & KNIFE SET
“I feel like I know a lot of people who love cheese and would be excited to receive the Clover Cheeseboard and accompanying stainless steel knives by Ferro Forma. It’s a really intelligent design and I like how the knives nest within the interconnecting segments of the board. Functionally it’s cool that the board can be divided to pass different cheeses around.”
—Thor, Founder & Director
Sprout Coat Stand
“The coat rack in my apartment is super ugly, so I would totally want to buy myself the Sprout coat stand which Thor collaborated with SKEEHAN Studio on. It’s as stunning as it is functional. Given space constraints, I also find it very ample in terms of how much you can hang on it.”
—Jack, Joiner
Zag Stack
“Top of my list is the Zag Stack. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t have a use for it. I think they make great trivets in the kitchen, for placing hot pots, pans or dishes. When not in use they are really sculptural and interesting - great conversation pieces. And of course Thor’s intended use for them as monitor stands makes sense too. They’re great drawer or tabletop organisers and you can fit any number of items in the zig zags. Zag Stacks are literally the perfect present for the person who has everything, or is otherwise tricky to buy for.”
—Simon, Joiner
Green Wood Plant Stand
“I really like the look of the Green Wood Plant Stand, made by Jan Saltet. It’s simple and elegant. My wife loves indoor plants and they give a good atmosphere to our home. I’d want to give her a nice plant stand with a new pot plant, perhaps. Yes, that would be a lovely gift.”
—Nobby, Joiner
Dry Vase
“I absolutely love the Dry Vase. The colour is incredible in all timber species and with a large arrangement of dried flowers, it looks stunning against a white wall. I actually think it’s the most beautiful vase I’ve seen and it would look great in any house. I should ask my husband to buy one for me!”
—Khyati, Office Manager
Mahlzeit Platter
“I really like cooking and entertaining and think Christmas is a wonderful time of bringing together family and friends and relaxing over a meal. So I’ve got to say I’d both want to give and receive one of the new Mahlzeit Platters. I can’t think of anything better than sitting around a delicious spread and enjoying a bottle of Canberra Cool Climate Shiraz.”
—Ben, Designer
Spin Pin
“I might be biased but I’ve got to say the Spin Pin which Geoff Farquar-Still (of Artillion Studio) has made from nails we’ve removed from demolition timber. We spend a lot of time denailing and the nails are pretty symbolic in a lot of ways. I think the Spin Pin is very well designed, and can be worn by anyone. It’s a great talking point.”
—Matt, Recycling Manager
And David can’t choose…
“I’m probably not original in saying I’d want to give the Clover Cheeseboard and accompanying Ferro Forma knives. This set is as beautiful as it is functional, and I am all about functional design. But a close second would be the Green Wood Plant Stand. My wife and I love our pot plants but they can look a bit sad if they’re just sitting on the floor. Having some beautiful stands for them would really accentuate our interior.”
