AN APARTMENT INTO A HOME

Paul and Eri say that they’ve always loved the look of natural timber surfaces and after spending five years in a one-bedroom townhouse, they saw an opportunity to make this apartment into a home, using recycled timbers from Thor’s Hammer throughout the whole apartment, from flooring to furniture.
The final space exudes warmth, style and practicality that is both timeless and beautiful. Scroll through to see detailed images of the items and more information.

Paul and Eri chose flooring with a sawtooth finish, made in recycled Australian Blackbutt / Dense Browns. The sawtooth floor feels comfortable and natural on bare feet, with it’s variation in texture and slightly uneven surface. This flooring was sawn and re-milled from recycled Sydney house roof timbers. We then lightly dressed it to retain some of the original rough sawn patina. It was solar kiln dried and moisture tested before machining to ensure minimal movement.
Two matching side tables especially designed for Paul and Eri, sit next to our Bed Bed design, featuring rounded legs and top. The Bed Bed is a queen size and both are made in recycled Mixed Ash sourced from Canberra house roofs, and finished with natural Osmo Polyx Oil in matt.
Mixed Ash is a great timber for use on anything internal including lining boards, floor boards, bench tops and furniture.
The B&T Shelves make a very elegant and practical addition to their living space. The shelving can be used as a room divider or display case and can be configured with 3 different heights of hoops and 2 widths of shelves & hoops. We made two units for Paul and Eri, made in recycled mixed ash and finished with Osmo polyx oil in matte.
The B&T shelves were designed in collaboration between Brian Tunks from Bisonhome & Thor from Thor’s Hammer.
The striking dining room table creates an anchoring point in the room, and the Blakeley’s Redgum natural edge slab top sets off well against the recycled Ash used elsewhere in the room. Read the background story about this special timber here! The table measures 1960 x 930 x 730mm.
Continuing our theme of both beautiful and practical is this television shelving unit. Featuring three drawers underneath, that slide out and become a separate coffee table! Now that’s clever use of space.
This unit is also made in recycled Mixed Ash.
Paul and Eri also made the very wise decision to invest in our sit / stand desks - an easy solution to keep more active when working or studying from home. The tables feature matching drawers that fit underneath and keep documents and office supplies safe and neat. The tables also include a heavy duty Ergo 4 Sit Stand base with a 10 year warranty, and custom made steel adaptor plates designed to support the hardwood desktop properly.

When the furniture pieces began to arrive the space sprang to life, and now it's a real joy to wake up and come home to.”
